I know this thread is getting a little old, but I just
tuned in, so here are a couple of pennies I wanted to
toss your way.

One of the things you should probably think about is
that what you are looking for is not necessarily a
thesis topic, but a thesis argument. The successful
theses are those that have a substantive argument to
sell to their audience. Take another look at the
topics you've explored in your coursework. Review your
notebooks and return to those seminar debates that got
you most fired up. Find the gaps, the errors, the
proof that's not quite there and take it from there.
I think you'll find that the single most important
thing to come out of the thesis process is learning
how your argument evolves over the course of your
research and writing. Best of luck and enjoy the
experience!
