Position Summary

The Operations Manager of Flandrau Science Center will be responsible 
for managing general operations of Flandrau in its current form as well 
as for planning the operational transition to the new University of 
Arizona Science Center opening in Downtown Tucson in 2008. This 
position will have oversight over current Safety, Policies and 
Procedures, Staff Training, Facilities Management and Planning, 
Information Systems, Maintenance, Visitor Services and Store, as well 
as coordination among the educational and program entities (i.e., 
Education, Planetarium, and Observatory).  

Duties and Responsibilities
 * Managing and facilitating effective communication between multiple 
departments.
* Overseeing all training-related activities including safety and 
security training, customer relations, opening and closing procedures, 
etc.
 * Coordinating weekend and evening supervisors.
* Hiring and supervising staff as needed including performing 
performance reviews, terminating, and developing new positions as 
needed.
* Maintaining inventory controls over store.
* Establishing and implementing appropriate customer relations policies 
and procedures for visitor services.
* Managing retail operation of gift shop and ensuring product relevance 
to educational mission and as K-12 teacher resources.
* Preparing, administering and monitoring budgets for store, visitor 
services, and general administrative functions .
* Overseeing the development of merchandise line and purchasing and 
receiving of products.
* Training staff as needed on CAM DATA/CAM COMMERCE POS system.
* Running weekly operational meetings to ensure coordination.
 * Overseeing installation of new educational programming as needed.
* Participating in Executive meetings.
* Participating in planning sessions for operations of new science 
center.
* Performing other tasks as assigned.  

Additional Minimum Qualifications
* Five years of experience in operating a science center or museum or 
an equivalent relevant organization.
* Three years of staff supervisory and staff development experience.
* Experience in retail budgeting and accounting.  

 Preferred Qualifications
* Degree in business related field.
* Ten years of experience in operating a science center or museum.
* Experience with CAM DATA/CAM COMMERCE POS systems.
* Art or graphic design experience.
* Strong written and oral communication skills.
* Strong computer skills.
