I am posting this on behalf of the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum
Commission (PHMC).  Please do not reply directly to me.



The Pennsylvania State Civil Service Commission has opened the civil
service list for museum curators.  Museum curators are employed at The
State Museum of Pennsylvania in Harrisburg, as well as at other state-owned
historic sites and museums across the Commonwealth.  In order to be
considered for future openings in these areas, interested candidates must
have their names placed on this list by submitting the appropriate
application to the Civil Service Commission.

Job titles being tested for include:  Museum Curator, History 1; Museum
Curator, History 2; and Museum Curator Supervisor, History

The summary of the job description contained in the test announcement
follows:

"Employees manage and care for collections in one or more state museums, in
the fields of Decorative Arts, Fine Arts, History, Science, and/or Industry
and Technology.  Employees accession, preseve, catalog, store, and utilize
artifacts and objects of historical interest; research and docoument
collecions; design, install and maintain exhibits; prepare and conduct
educational programs; and write articles, correspondence and reports.

Museum Curators, History 2 positions are characterized by a greater degree
of responsibility, more complex assignment, and greater independence of
action than Curators 1.

Museum Curator Supervisors, History direct regional or statewide history
curatorial and/or collections management program; develop, organize and
coordinate programs with other public and private agencies, institutions,
and individuals; supervise professional, technical, clerical and volunteer
employees assisgned to the section, including assigning and reviewing work,
developing staff, and evaluating performance."
