Mary Worthington: Who/where is Neil Postman?

     Eric Siegel

Hi Eric. Postman was Professor of Media Ecology (!) at NYU (in 1982, when
the last book of his I own was published.) He's an educator, who wrote
"Teaching as a Subversive Activity" and "The Disappearance of Childhood"
among much else. I have no idea why he was invited to address ICOM, and he
apologizes in his introduction for knowing "less about the field than anyone
in the audience." Certainly his naivete about museums is clear in his
speech, as are his refreshing ideas.
