I'd like to invite you to join colleagues in building a body of wisdom and
practice regarding food & museums.

The symposium Feeding the Spirit: Museums, Food and Community will bring
together people from museums and the worlds of food, health and food policy
to share information and inspire museums to help their communities tackle
food issues.

Speakers, panelists and participants will explore three themes:
* how museums can increase food literacy in their communities, to help
people make informed choices about health and nutrition;
* how museums can bring their own food services into alignment with their
values about health and sustainability while improving their own bottom
line;
* how museums can use food to reach out to new audiences and strengthen
their ties to their community.

The symposium will be participatory as well as informative, drawing on ideas
and debate from attendees to help build a discussion & resource guide to
share with the field.

The keynote lecture will be given by Jessica Harris, scholar, cook, author
and historian of African American food traditions. Her most recent book is
High on the Hog: A Culinary Journey from Africa to America.

When: Thursday, October 13
Where: Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, Pittsburgh
How much: The symposium is co-sponsored by AAM, ACM, AAAM and APGA.
Registration fee for members of any of these organizations is $40.
Non-member fee $140.

More information about the symposium, including a complete list of speakers
and registration forms, available at:
