Clarksville’s Joe Galluzzo Exhibits at Customs House Museum & Cultural
Center

Clarksville, TN – The work of Clarksville artist Joe Galluzzo is featured
in a solo exhibit in Heritage Hall at Customs House Museum & Cultural
Center, 200 South Second Street, Clarksville, beginning September 25. The
show, titled “By Land and Sea” hangs until February 6, 2005. The public is
invited to meet the artist at a reception on Thursday, October 7 from 6-8
pm. The reception coincides with downtown Clarksville’s “First Thursday Art
Walk.”

Galluzzo began painting when he was young and won an award for his artwork
while in high school. He studied fundamentals of art at the Art Institute
of Chicago, and frequently visited exhibits of major artists who would
influence his work. As an adult, Galluzzo participated in art shows at
Abbott Laboratories where he also won an award. His work has been exhibited
numerous times in group shows in Chicago and Alabama. Galluzzo, a former
chemical engineer who retired due to vision problems, received a lifetime
achievement award from The International Biographical Center in recognition
of his contributions in chemical engineering and oil painting. For the past
three years he has been a member of the local group ARTZ, which exhibits in
several venues in Clarksville.

“By Land and Sea” features 15 of Galluzzo’s paintings. The seascapes
include paintings of lighthouses and boats, while the landscapes include
renderings of trees, bushes, and flowers. Galluzzo prefers painting with
oils, and finds the media especially appealing in achieving an
impressionistic approach to land- and seascapes.

Galluzzo says he is inspired by the works of the Impressionist painters
Renoir, Degas, Monet and Van Gogh who, “departed from reality and
photography, and moved to capturing impressions of reality.” Galluzzo’s
style of painting has been compared to that of Impressionist painter
Camille Pissarro.

Steven Stewart, Customs House Museum & Cultural Center’s Chief Curator,
says of “By Land and Sea,” “I get a wonderful feeling of the season when I
walk into Joe’s show. I feel like autumn has made a trip indoors this year.”

The Customs House Museum & Cultural Center is a non-profit museum located
in downtown Clarksville, Tennessee. Regular hours are Tuesday through
Saturday 10 am to 5 pm and Sunday 1 to 5 pm. Admission is free on Sundays.
Free parking for museum visitors is available in the lot behind the
building.
