TITLE:  DEVELOPMENT OFFICER

DEPARTMENT:  Development
POSITION CLASSIFICATION:  Regular Full Time
WAGE CLASSIFICATION:  Salaried
REPORTS TO:  Vice President - Development

JOB SUMMARY:

The Development Officer is a primary advocate in raising operations
and capital revenue for the Museum.  This position has primary
responsibility for: initiating and implementing revenue-enhancing
concepts and strategies, in particular the individual members
component; initiating and implementing appropriate special events;
implementing fundraising concepts and strategies for the Community
Support component of the Museum's capital campaign, in particular
meeting the challenge requirements of the Oregon Community
Foundation's February 1996 grant to the Museum; and initiating and
implementing a deferred/planned giving program for the Museum.  This
position will focus on generation of operations and campaign revenue
and therefore will have an external, direct-fundraising orientation.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Demonstrated track record in institutional advocacy and fund
raising, preferably with at least four years experience in a museum
or other non-profit setting.

Prefers working in an environment with agreed upon, aggressive goals
with monitored performance.

Ability and desire to effectively advocate the Museum to prospective
donors.

Outgoing personality, with experience, ability and desire to call on
donors and prospective donors and to attend business and special
functions--locally and outside the area as necessary.

Excellent writing and presentation skills .

Ability to work in a team atmosphere and to be flexible in the work
schedule.

Experience in a capital campaign preferred.

Bachelor Degree.

Computer experience; general knowledge of word processing, and
spreadsheet software preferred.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

1.  Initiate and implement plans and strategies for broadening the
Museum's base of operating financial support from individuals with
primary focus on direct fund raising activities.

2.  Serve as a primary advocate for the Community Support component
of the capital campaign through identifying, cultivating and
soliciting prospective donors through direct fundraising activities.

3.  Develop strategies and implement a deferred/planned giving
program for the Museum.

4.  Initiate and write specific grant proposals as appropriate.

5.  Work as a member of a development team to achieve institutional
fund raising goals.

6.  Oversee and conduct a regular program of lunches at the Museum
for the purpose of ongoing cultivation and solicitation of operations
and campaign prospects.

7.  Comply with all Museum policies, procedures and safety
regulations.

8.  Perform other tasks and duties as assigned.
