Hello, just a general educational question. I have recently earned a B.A.
in History, and I am setting my sights on a museum or history related
career, most preferably in the area of exhibit research. To further my
education I am looking at grad programs in museum studies, public history
and...urban and historical geography. As a reader of this list, I have
noticed that the museum job market is extremely competetive, and salaries
are hardly adequate in many cases. I am spectulating that an M.A. in urban
and/or historical geography will provide more career options (like urban
planning, historical consulting, GIS, etc.) upon graduation than a museum
studies degree, while at the same giving me solid background in historical
research for future museum employment. Currently I am gaining museum
experience as an employee of a state archives.

Just wondering if anyone had any thoughts regarding this, and if there are
any geographer's working at museums who could share any wisdom on this
subject.

thanks!
- Ben
