Executive Director
The Bronx Museum of the Arts

The Board of Trustees of The Bronx Museum of the Arts seeks an enthusiastic
and motivated leader with a proven track record in fundraising, program
development, and sound financial management, and has familiarity with the
City of New York and culturally diverse communities, to lead The Bronx
Museum of the Arts. The Museum was founded in 1971, and has established a
local and international reputation as a contemporary and multicultural art
museum—the only one of its kind in the borough. The September 2003
groundbreaking for a new wing, which will expand the Museum’s facilities,
is the first phase of a major capital project scheduled for completion in
2006.

The Executive Director will report to the Board of Trustees through the
Chair and closely interact on a regular basis with the Board’s various ad-
hoc and standing committees. She/He will serve as chief fundraiser, public
spokesperson, and advocate of the Museum, and will be a visible active
member of the immediate community as well as that of the City and State.
The Executive Director will have broad decision-making authority, and will
be accountable for the Museum’s human and financial resources.

The Executive Director will be expected to:

-Exercise leadership for future growth through his/her organizational
vision.
-Oversee a professional and administrative staff of approximately 25.
-Instill a sense of confidence amongst staff, board, donors, foundations,
and community leaders in regard to the continuing operations of the Museum.
-Work with consultants, staff, and the Board to insure that the capital
project, the $7.5 million capital campaign, and the Children’s Art Center
initiative move forward.
-Develop and lead annual and capital campaign fundraising strategies.
-Have first-hand knowledge of New York and national philanthropy,
particularly in the cultural sector.
-Oversee appropriate systems and procedures for efficient museum operations
and administration.
-Oversee federal grant reports and budget management.
-Working with Senior Staff, prepare yearly budgets.
-Maintain a programmatic balance that addresses diverse constituencies
through exhibitions, educational programs, and social events.
-Garner press and further advance marketing and PR efforts.

This is a full-time position with health and retirement benefits included.

Position requires a degree in museum studies, business administration, or
related field, and a minimum of ten years’ experience in leadership
position in an art museum or related cultural institutions.
