Sharon: I believe you may be missing a bet-- have you contacted dairies,
especially mega-dairies, for educational props? Quite a few (if indeed there
are quite a few left) would just as soon hand over the educational component
to a museum. $6000 for a new fiberglass cow seems like a reach for any
museum, unless you had a sponsor ready and waiting in the wings. A stool
with udders-- I don't know about that, cows are impressive because of their
size and bulk. Don't know which region of the country you are in, but I do
know the former Carnation company (Carnation, WA) has a sizeable education
and archives department. Some areas have competing local dairies that are
phasing out/selling out to mega-dairies, and are left with their own
demonstration props.  Just a thought. And watch out about the other things
that come out of cows...
