***Scholarship to the Modern Archives Institute***
(Deadline:  Applications must be postmarked by February 28, 2005)

-Scholarship Information:
The Colonial Dames/Donna Cutt Scholarship Committee of the Society of
American Archivists is soliciting candidates for the Colonial Dames
Scholarship.  The individual award covers up to $1200 of the total tuition,
travel and housing expenses at the 2005 Summer National Archives' Modern
Archives Institute.  During 2005 (June 6-17, 2005), most sessions will take
place in the National Archives at College Park, Maryland. The Institute will
meet at the Library of Congress, Washington, DC, on one of the days. Classes
will be held Monday through Friday of the 2 weeks.  

-Background Information:
The Colonial Dames Scholarship was established in 1974 and is given in
conjunction with the Colonial Dames of America.  The awards provides
financial assistance for each of the two yearly Modern Archives Institutes
given by the National Archives.

-Modern Archives Institute Information:
The 2-week Modern Archives Institute program provides an introduction to
archival principles and techniques for individuals who work with personal
papers, as well as those who work with the records of public and private
institutions and organizations. It is intended to help archivists acquire
basic knowledge about caring for archival materials and making them

Note:  Applicants to the Colonial Dames Scholarship do not have to apply to
the Modern Archives Institute directly unless they are planning to attend
the Modern Archives Institute regardless of whether they are a scholarship
recipient.  Registration spaces in the Institute are made available by NARA
for scholarship recipients.
