The biggest single piece of advice I would give you is to put
a time limit on how long the naming is good for. . . you don't
want to end up with a run down exhibit that you need to keep
for ever because somebodies name is on it. .. naming buildings
is different from naming exhibits because of their reasonable
lifetime and when you will need to make your next major capital
investment to replace or update them.

Some museums require a continued annual level of support
for the exhibit (COSI in Columbus, Ohio for example) to keep
someone's name on the exhibit.

Good luck. . . it's always hard to say no to any amount of $$$
but you want to protect the museum's future flexibility.

Subject: Donor recognition policies

We have a client who is in a capital campaign for a new building and new
exhibits. They are currently creating a policy with regard to what
sponsors/donors can and cannot have in terms of exposure in and around
the
exhibit galleries. They are discussing policies for naming, logos,
banners,
etc. They are thinking about sizes, placement, longevity and content of
donor recognition, particularly in terms of corporate and product-based
contributions and sponsorship.

Does anyone have extant policies regarding these matters that they'd be
willing to share? We're also interested in hearing from anyone with
policies that distinguish between programs/exhibits for children and
those
for adults.

Many thanks for your help,
