Hi Joshua,

We do not rope off chairs, because our vision as a historic house museum is
to represent, as closely as possible, what it really was like to live here.
We rely on in-depth docent training to empower docents to maintain control
of small tours (no more than 6 but we will be moving soon to 8 per tour). We
do have one compromise on the second floor, which comes in the form of a
complimentary-styled bench - just in case someone is overwhelmed by
ascending the stairs.

Ours is not the only way to address this issue, but I offer it as one
example.

Best,
Ware

The McFaddin-Ward House is currently showing the exhibit "Moving In," which
illustrates how the McFaddins first moved in to their new home at 1906
McFaddin Avenue in January 1907. Call 409-832-2134 for tour information.

Subject: Roping Off Chairs/Furniture

There's many ways to do so, but I was curious as to what tactics other
institutions used to discourage chairs and other such furniture on
display being used for their intended purpose.

Hope everyone is staying reasonably cool!

Regards,
