The Museum Loan Network (http://loanet.mit.edu/Web/) is expanding its staff
and seeking a Program Associate with history and museum education
experience. The Museum Loan Network is a national program to promote
collection-sharing of objects throughout museums in the United States,
funded by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation and The Pew Charitable
Trusts and administered by MIT's Office of the Arts. MLN both facilitates
and funds the long-term loan of objects.
The Program Associate will work as a member of the MLN team in communicating
the mission of the program to the national museum community. The incumbent
will speak about the program at national and regional museum conferences and
be involved in the writing and production of the MLN newsletter and website.
The Program Associate will also work on the MLN Directory, an on-line
database of objects available for long-term loan within the national museum
community. The Program Associate will assist the Director in working with
potential grantees on application proposals and reviewing final reports and
responding to oral and written inquiries about the program and its
application process.
Qualifications:  MA in History , Museum Studies, or other relevant field is
highly preferred; BA is required.  Minimum of 2 years in museum or
museum-related experience.  The applicant should have knowledge of current
museum practice, and a strong background in museum education  Excellent
written and oral skills and demonstrated ability to work well with people
from a variety of backgrounds, including museum colleagues, consultants,
grantees and applicants.  Strong computer skills essential, especially in
the area of data bases and familiarity with html preferred.
Starting date for the position is September 1, 1999.  Salary range $30,000-
$35,000 commensurates with experience.  Excellent benefits package.  MIT is
