As a University professor, I feel I have to reply to this. Our graduate
assistant, or TAs, receive full tuition reimbursement plus a stipend, in
exchange for which they work 20 hours a week for a 10 week term. This works
out to about $30 an hour-not bad for an "unpaid" position, and a definite
savings for other students, whose tuition would undoubtedly have to
increase if we additional faculty (read "salary and benefits").
