It looks like it is acting like a rattleback toy. A slight rearrangement of the case perhaps made it more susceptible to vibrations and now it is slowly spinning in one direction as it vibrates.

A brave curator can help solve the mystery by taking it out and seeing if it is easier to spin in one direction or the other and preferably rattles to a stop when spun in one direction.
