I recently joined this list, and I think it is wonderful.  I have learned
something EVERY DAY from the discussions that ensue.

I administer four grant programs for the State Historical Society of Iowa,
many of which directly benefit museums throughout Iowa.  At present, I am
reviewing our criteria for selecting grant review panelists.  I would like
to know how other states/organizations do the following:

1.  Devise criteria for grant review panel selection; which criteria are
used?
2.  Determine the number of grant review panelists that most benefits the
selection process.
3.  Determine the length of service for grant review panelists.
4.  Integrate staff guidance/suggestions into the grant process.

Any comments/suggestions are welcome.  If a study exists that has analyzed
these questions already, please point the way!  You may reply to me
personally or through the list, depending on the degree of interest.  Thank
