Please share the following post with undergraduate and graduate students

interested in gaining career experience in Public History, Historic

Preservation, and Museums.



Carl Sandburg Home National Historic Site in Flat Rock, NC, has an

immediate opening for a student temporary employee for the position of

Museum Technician (30 hours/week).



Duties:

      Conducting daily museum maintenance and housekeeping for historic

      furnished interiors.

      Cataloging objects and completing electronic data entry.

      Preserving and inventorying Sandburg’s library.

      Assisting with environmental monitoring program to record

      temperature, light, humidity and pests and their effects on museum

      objects.

      Performing research for catalog records.

      Sharing information with visitors and staff.

      Assisting the Museum Curator.



Qualifications:

This position requires a bachelor’s degree or at least 1 year of experience

in museums or a related field. The museum technician must be a student in

good standing enrolled (at least half-time) in a degree-seeking program at

an accredited College or University in a program such as Museum Studies,

Library Science, History, Art History, or other related fields. You must be

a United States citizen, and a background check will be required.



This position requires good hand skills and the ability to work with

delicate materials. The museum technician must possess a general knowledge

of computers and basic data entry skills. The physical requirements for

this position include walking and standing for prolonged periods of time,

bending, climbing ladders, lifting up to 50 pounds, and using cutting

tools.
