Hi everyone,

This may or may not have anything to do with the present discussion but I thought it would still be of interest.

I do cultural planning and refer to census data for statistical information about a community. Regarding race, the information from the past census of 2000 cannot be compared with the previous because the race category was changed. There were five race categories in 1990 Census
tabulations. In Census 2000 data, the number of race categories rose to 63 (six races and their multi-racial combinations). However, the Census 2000 Summary File 2 data (to be released soon) contains an iteration of 250 population groups: the total, 132 race groups, 78 American
Indian and Alaska Native tribe categories, and 39 Hispanic (or Latino) groups.

Perhaps it furthers the meaning of the richness of diversty rather than seeing it as based on race alone.
