At the moment our exhibit design is thinking about recognizing our
volunteers with a temporary exhibit. We are thinking about getting them to
pick out their favorite artifacts and then explain why its their favorite
and possibly including a photo of the volunteer to go along with the item.

But above all I would suggest trying to add more personal touches.

We send birthday, anniversary, and Christmas cards to all our volunteers. A
card is circulated around the staff close to the occassion and we all sign
with personal wishes making sure to address the person personally.

We also try to do the same thing for when our volunteers are gone. "We miss
you so much since you are on vacation but have fun" or "We miss you so much,
get well soon." We also try to send cards/flowers for more serious
occassions too, such as if the volunteer or a close loved one has been
hospitalized or incase of death (a collection is taken among the staff who
wants to participate).

The one thing that we try to do above all is treat them like family. We
couldn't get along without our volunteers and we try to make sure that they
realize how much they mean to us.
