We allow sales from our annual students' art exhibition. All negotiations must go through the student but we do keep a list of sale prices and contact information on hand. They grant permission on their entry form for us to release this information (or not) as well as grants us permission to photograph their works for promotion.

Hi Carrie,

We occasionally have art shows, and I have to say that I make every effort
not to get involved as an intermediary between artist and potential buyers,
for the very reasons you mention (plus, I just don't have the time!). If
an artist/organization is hoping to sell any of the work on display, they
are responsible for making sure that potential buyers can find them.
Usually, this means leaving business cards or programs with contact
information in a prominent spot. The extent of my involvement is to call
the artist/organization if I notice that all of the cards/programs are
gone.

Good luck!

Quick question for those of you who exhibit work by artist that may be
available for purchase. How do you go about obtaining permission to
release the artist's contact information to prospective buyers? Do you
have them sign a form authorizing the release of some information.

We run a small juried art competition (with artwork mainly from amateur
artists) in the Museum every three years. Our receptionist is inundated
with requests for artist contact information, but doesn't know what to do.
She's worries about putting and artist and the museum in a difficult
position by releasing a home address to an undesirable party (stalker,
thief, etc.).

Thanks in advance,
Carrie Snow
