Museum Victoria has had a successful barcoding system in place for a few
years now, and has also had a fair bit of experience (negative as well as
positive) in the use of automated data capture in the bulk relocation of
collection material.

See http://www.emuusers.org/MVCIS.asp for more information on our system, or
contact me if you have any specific questions.

Our museum coordinates an art-in-office program where art may be
checked
out to individuals for display in their offices. Currently, the
Art-in-Office collection contains approximately 500 items and is
located
in approximately 300 offices.

We are revisiting our identification system for individual works and
our
methods for tracking their locations. We want to explore the use of
barcodes on objects by other museums or organizations with similar
art-in-office programs. We would be interested in hearing about your
methods and experiences, and if your organization uses barcodes, which
systems/vendors that you would recommend.

Thanks for your help.
