Art Libraries Society of North America bestows 1998 Research Awards


        RALEIGH, NC-- At the 26th annual conference Convocation of the Art
Libraries Society of North America (ARLIS/NA) held in Philadelphia, March
7, 1998, the ARLIS/NA Research Committee presented the following awards:
The H.W.Wilson Foundation Research Award to Nina K. Stephenson, for her
project on photography's history in Indonesia;
The John Benjamins Award to Miranda Howard Haddock for her ongoing
bibliography "Darning the Wear of Time: Periodic Literature on Costume
Conservation, Restoration and Documentation";
The Worldwide Books Publication Awards to Jane Block, editor of "Belgium,
the Golden Decades, 1880-1914" (New York, 1997); Irena Murray and Kathryn
Jackson, "Sources in Iconography in the Blackader-Lauterman Library"
(Montreal, 1997); and Barbara Koerble, for her ongoing contributions to the
periodicals "CITE" and "Texas Architect".
        The ARLIS/NA Research Committee is charged with promoting research and
publication by the Society's members in the fields of librarianship, visual
resources curatorship, and the arts.  The awards encourages the
professional development of the membership in their capacities as
information intermediaries and as subject  specialists in the arts.
        The 1997-98 Research Committee consisted of:  Amanda Bowen, Harvard
University (Chair); Susan Beelick, CSU Sacramento; Norine Duncan, Brown
University; Sheila Klos, University of Oregon; Joan Stahl, National Museum
of American Art; and Kathy Zimon, University of Calgary.

        The Art Libraries Society of North America, founded in 1972, is devoted to
fostering excellence in art librarianship and visual resources curatorship
