Folks:

The fourth entry in the online research Journal: Japanese Wooden Boats in Woodblock Prints entitled Kawara (Japanese for change) is up on the Museum of Underwater Archaeology website. In this entry graduate student Michelle Damian writes about her MA research in Japan and how interviewing traditional boat builders, and examining museum small craft collections has altered her view of how to best utilize woodblock prints as a source of data. Click the link below to read about, and view images from, her recent trip.

In other news….

A few of us are headed out later today to Vallejo, CA to attend the Cal Maritime Conference on Teaching and Learning in the Maritime Environment. Several East Carolina University students, including Michelle Damian will be presenting on Thursday afternoon on teaching children about underwater archaeology. I’ll be speaking on Friday morning about the impact of student participation in digital publications. Please stop by to say hello if you have the chance.

On a more serious and scientific note:

Are there any "do not miss" places to eat in the San Francisco / Oakland area? : )

Best regards,
