What about homemade toys like tin cans and string, sardine can trains, slingshots, spool tops, rag dolls, corn shuck, and sock dolls, or stilts? There are lots of things that poor and rural kids play(ed) with, but maybe they are to much the same as 19th century toys. We have a few
of these items in our collection from an exhibit a few years ago.

My personal favorites were plastic horse models (about 10 inches tall) ridden by Madame Alexander dolls and hula hoops for circus tricks.
