INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY
STAR-SPANGLED BANNER FLAG HOUSE AND WAR OF 1812 MUSEUM
BALTIMORE, MARYLAND

Title: Research Intern (three needed)
Supervisor: Curator
Note: This is an unpaid Intern position.

Description:
Under general supervision, work as part of creative team at the Museum to
research specific topics of the War of 1812 resulting in a script for the
design of exhibits to be put in a new building. The three Research Interns
will work primarily with the Curator to help conduct thorough historical
research, and research artifacts that are designated by as possibilities
for display in future exhibits.

Minimum Qualifications:
Upper level students in a bachelors degree program in Museum Studies,
Public History, History or related field. Graduate students preferred.
Strong knowledge of American and/or Military history desired
Good computer skills and experience using Microsoft Word, Internet, and
other common programs.
Careful attention to detail.
Proficient in historical research methods.
Good communication skills and the ability to work independently are
important to the successful performance of this position.

Principal Activities:
1. Work with the Curator to identify and perform provenance research for
designated artifacts in the Museum’s collection.
2. Perform historical research on specific topics of the War of 1812 to
work into an exhibit script.
3. Research other museums that could potentially loan materials to the Flag
House
4. Conceptualize how artifacts and research can be joined to create
exhibits.
