Listers,
I'm not sure of the advisability of formally accessioning such items, but
they do form a tangible record of your organization's history and carefully
selected items could become part of your corporate archive. You do have a
corporate archive, don't you?

Our organization turns fifty in 2003 and I'm now on the lookout for items
from our early days that can be used to illustrate our history. We have no
formal corporate archive either, but are now trying to get other departments
to send examples of their publications to our library and to spend time each
year going through their files to save important records and trash the rest
(rather than sending it all to the library and expecting the library/museum
staff to sort it for them).

Harry,

Trust me, I'm not happy about it but they accessioned it before I got here!
Even better (or worse!), we also have the scissors, with ribbon attached,
for cutting the opening day ribbon in 1992. Yippee!
