I remember several fun exhibits at the Science Museum in Boston related to
sound; one was a stairway that "played" notes as you walked up or down.
Don't know if you would classify it as visual art but it was very
engaging; there were other "sound" pieces in the exhibit that might fit
your need if the stair idea doesn't.
