Spaces are still available in the following SOLINET Preservation class.
Any institution in Virginia may send participants at the member rate,
thanks to a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities,
Division of Preservation and Access.  Students of library or archives
programs may attend at half-price.  Any institution sending three
participants to this class receives an additional free registration to
the same class.

****DIGITAL LIBRARY PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT****

As institutions collect and provide access to increasing amounts of
digital data, they also may look to improve access to existing
collections in a variety of formats. This one-day class will discuss how
to coherently create, integrate, and sustain new digital resources and
programs, such as imaging projects, within existing resources and
programs. Digital Library Program Development identifies the knowledge
necessary to begin developing local digital resources in a responsible,
sustainable, and systematic manner.

Topics to be addressed within the context of building the program
necessary for creating and providing access to digital information
include:

*Program planning and development
*Standards
*Workflow analysis
*Lifecycle management
*Assessing and supporting user needs
*Collaboration in production and access
*Evaluating and managing technology in support of the program and
patrons
*Establishing policies and standard procedures
*Integrating program activities with other related library activities.

Instructor: Toby Graham, Director of the Digital Library of Georgia

Location and Time: Monday, July 25th, from 9am to 4pm at the Roanoke
Public Library in Roanoke, VA

Intended audience: Staff responsible for the development, management,
and administration of new digital library programs.

Cost: $195 for SOLINET members, $235.00 for non-members.  Students of
library or archives programs may attend at half-price.  Any institution
sending three participants to this class receives an additional free
registration to the same class.  Thanks to a grant from the National
Endowment for the Humanities, Division of Preservation and Access, any
institution in the state of Virginia may attend at member price.  Be
sure to select "member rate" when registering to ensure proper billing.
