One of many significant advantages of having environmental data monitored and recorded in a digital format comes in the form of a software program developed at R.I.T. by the Image Permanence Institute called Climate Notebook.
It interprets the data to factor risks to different types of collections and estimate the likelihood and potential severity of mold growth.
A Very cool direction to be headed I think.

Another advantage to Dataloggers is a significant savings in maintenance time when compared to Hygrothermographs.

Also, some brands can operate wirelessly, signaling a control unit attached to a computer that will then generate an audible alarm when temperature or humidity goes beyond the set points you establish. Some also have an auto-dial feature. Some can accommodate water sensing alarms for leaks also.

Hobos are very user friendly, widely available and had pretty decent support when I used them.

I was about to ask the same question. What are the advantages/disadvantages
as compared to hygrothermographs (aside from freedom from the paper charts
that started this discussion). Thanks
