"Foodways" in Colonial Boston
Archaeological Lecture at the Commonwealth Museum

William Francis Galvin, Secretary of the Commonwealth, announced recently
that Dr. David B. Landon, of the University of Massachusetts at Boston, will
present a lecture on "foodways" in colonial Boston based on archaeological
evidence. The lecture is scheduled at the Commonwealth Museum, Saturday, May
5, 2001, at 10:30 am.
Dr. Landon is a senior scientist with the Center for Cultural and
Environmental History at the university. Using animal bone evidence from
four colonial sites in eastern Massachusetts, he will reconstruct past
eating and agricultural practices.
This is the latest in a monthly lecture series on Massachusetts history. The
Commonwealth Museum is located in the Massachusetts Archives building on
Columbia Point in the Dorchester section of Boston. Admission and parking
are free, and the building is handicapped accessible. For additional
information or a brochure listing future lectures call 617-727-2816.
