years ago.  I think it was set at AMNH.

The scary movie you mentioned was RELIC and it was filmed at the Field Museum (of Natural History) in Chicago.  The relic was a monster comprised of all sorts of different DNA and tied to some sort of ancient myth....NOT as some people thought, a museum employee who'd been in the same job in that dark basement storage area for the past 30 years....
