Let's combine Old Recipes with Sense and Sensibility - The talk
about licking paintings! reminded me of an old saw that was told to a
friend who inherited turn of the century European paintings (huge, with
gloppy frames) - She was told to set them in a warm shower and rub the
surface with a raw potato. She tried one and found it not very
satisfying, but the frame sure sparkled - having lost decades of
household dust. The rest, thankfully, were too large for her shower and
by the time she got a bathtub she had second thoughts.
