Museums & Galleries Commission Seminars for the Autumn

The MGC is working in partnership with a number of organisations to
provide a series of free seminars on three important areas for museums
and galleries.

European Funding Advice

Five seminars are being run around the UK to provide strategic advice to
museum professionals and independent conservators on European Funding.
These one-day events will be led by EUCLID, the UK Cultural Contact
Point for European funding programmes. The programme will include
background information on the European Union; an overview of specific
programmes, including Culture 2000; a series of case studies and group
sessions to discuss the particular needs of participants.

The dates and venues are:

4 October Northern Ireland Museums Council, Belfast
7 October Museums & Galleries Commission, London
27 October North West Museums Service, Blackburn
3 December The National Trust for Scotland, Edinburgh
8 December Council of Museums in Wales, Cardiff

Museum Marketing Group Case Study Seminars

Members of the Museum Marketing Group (MMG) are working with the MGC on
a number of marketing case study seminars. The idea behind the sessions
is to provide those working in museum marketing with the opportunity to
hear the experiences of colleagues on certain key issues faced by
museums.

Dates and venues are as follows:

2 September Marketing Planning for Free (Admission) NMGM
4 November Marketing for Groups The
Royal Pavilion
9 December Audience Development - Making it Happen Laing Art
Gallery
13 January Evening Openings
Galleries of Justice
17 February Visual Arts in Primary Education
Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts
15 March In-House run Membership Schemes Museum of
Science & Industry in Manchester

The Museum Marketing Group will also be presenting a session at the MA
Conference on Tuesday 28 September from 1.45pm to 3.00pm.

Market Segmentation

The British Tourist Authority (BTA) has kindly agreed to run two
workshops specifically for museums and galleries on tourism marketing -
with special attention paid to dividing audiences up into key target
segments in order to make the best use of limited marketing resources.
The Yorkshire and Humberside Museums Council are hosting one of these
two-day sessions at their offices at Farnley Hall on 13 and 14 October.
The second is due to be held in the South West of England later in the
year. Again there is no charge for these workshops, but delegates will
have to find and pay for their own overnight accommodation as necessary.

For programmes and booking information on any of these seminars please
