JOB SUMMARY:
Join the National Mining Museum’s team for a summer of museum learning
and fun in the Colorado Rockies.  The internship provides for a wide
array of duties, offering an optimal learning experience for those
interested in pursuing a career in the museum field.

The intern will divide hours between the Museum Admissions and Gift
Shop (two days) and curatorial projects (three days).  As a curatorial
intern you will undergo a vigorous training program preparing you to
work in the curatorial department. Interns will be assigned projects
focused on collection’s management and exhibit development.
Curatorial staff will work with the intern to identify projects which
correlate with their interests and career goals.  Museum collections
focus on mining history and mineralogy.

As a Visitor Services Representative (VSR) you are the face of the
Museum and the primary point of contact for visitors. You are required
to provide high quality and friendly service to visitors of the Museum
to ensure a pleasant and memorable experience at this national
institution.  You will be involved at all points of the visit cycle
from greeting visitors and completing their transaction at the
Admissions Desk through to servicing and thanking departing visitors
in the retail Gift Shop. As a VSR, you are an ambassador for the
National Mining Hall of Fame & Museum, and as such you are required to
represent this federally-chartered institution in the best possible
light at all times.  A passion for mining heritage and guest service
will shape every interaction you have.

JOB SUMMARY:
The Lead Docent’s objective is to advance the educational mission of
the Matchless Mine and the National Mining Hall of Fame and Museum
(NMHFM) by leading the daily activities of the Historic Docent team.
The Lead docent will work with and report to the Site Supervisor and
the NMHFM Curator & Operation’s Manager. They will manage the on-site
activities of the Matchless Mine, including but not limited to leading
docents daily activities, daily administrative duties and promoting
historic preservation efforts at the site. They will also perform
docent duties of conducting tours and providing quality customer
service to the general public (children, adults, and families).  By
utilizing techniques of dialogue and inquiry, role playing and
storytelling, the docent encourages guests’ interest in the Matchless
Mine, the Tabor family and 19th century Mining.  The Lead Docent will
also lead guest activities such as gold panning on site. Lead Docent
will also work with Site Supervisor to care for the property and
perform and ensure simple janitorial duties are completed. The Mine
Site is outdoors and the Lead Docent must be prepared for all weather
conditions occurring in a mountain environment.  As a Lead Docent, you
are an ambassador for the Matchless Mine and its owner/operator, the
National Mining Hall of Fame & Museum, and as such are required to
represent this federally-chartered institution in the best possible

The On-Site Caretaker is responsible for monitoring the after-hours
security of the historic Matchless Mine, providing outstanding

In exchange for this labor, the Caretaker is provided the unique
opportunity of living (in his/her own R.V. or camper) on the historic
Matchless Mine property during the summer season, rent-free.
Electricity and trash removal is provided, however, there is no
on-site water or sanitation, which would be the responsibility of the
Caretaker. The Caretaker is an ambassador for the Matchless Mine and
its owner/operator, the National Mining Hall of Fame & Museum, and as
