The WINS Program Manager will be responsible for the management of after-school and summer science enrichment programs for teen girls from single parent families in Philadelphia. The individual will provide mentoring and instruction to young women interested in science, including encouraging commitment to scientific study and exposing students to science career opportunities. Will be involved in evaluating current programs; will teach science, personal growth, and team building classes; and will seek funding to support and strengthen the science enrichment programs.
 
Responsibilities:
Act as instructor and mentor for students enrolled in science enrichment programs.  Participate in evaluation of science enrichment programs at the Academy.  Develop new classes and program opportunities and create connections to take full advantage of the Academy's expertise in environmental and biodiversity research.  Prepare students for, and match students with compatible science programs which offer extended learning experiences.  Provide career development advice and assist students in seeking scholarships, training, and other opportunities that build upon their interests and skills.
Act as liaison between WINS students and Academy staff (including volunteers, educators, and administrative and scientific staff).  Manage program budgets.  Support Learning and Technology, Development, Academy Programs & Services, and scientific research staff in developing grants to fund science education programs for underserved and special audiences.
 
Requirements:
Ø Degree in biology, environmental science, or education.
Ø Experience in working with teenagers, especially urban youth.
Ø Science education or curriculum development experience preferred.
Ø Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ø Must be team player, able to work closely with Learning and Technology, Public Programs, Exhibits, Development, and Scientific staff, as well as the communities the Academy's science enrichment programs serve.
Ø Strong organizational, administrative, and managerial skills.
