Museum exhibits and their funding are a perfect example of synergy. In our
taxes, we each put in a certain amount of money which covers all the museum
funding contributed by the government. Each of us for our small contribution
gets millions and millions of dollars worth of exhibits and programs of all
kinds. Sometimes I take advantage of one of these and walk away saying "Wow!
Whatever taxes I put toward museums, I just got my full moneysworth out of
that one exhibit!" Sometimes (for me, an exhibit on weaponry, for instance)
I walk away yawning "Whew! Whatever that was, I don't get it. That wasn't
worth ten cents to me." I always assume that somewhere there is a person who
had the opposite reaction. And even in a very very bad year, I get more than
I could ever have provided for myself by my paltry contribution. If you are
unhappy with your taxes being spent on this particular exhibit, you have only
to go to others until you feel you have gotten YOUR moneysworth out of those
instead of this one. This will also have the effect of encouraging the
museums to do more of the type of exhibit you prefer. Donna Carty
