I am the Assistant Registrar at the MUSEUM OF OUR NATIONAL HERITAGE...and I
must write to let all of you know that we DO INDEED HAVE A COLLECTION ...we
actively collect objects relating to Fraternal and Sororal Societies
(Freemasons, Odd Fellows, Eastern Star &c.), general Americana, and objects
relating to Lexington's role in the American Revolution. We have about 15,000
objects.
You might have been mistaken because we handle so many traveling exhibitions
and curate exhibitions of private collections and collections from other
museums (e.g. we recently did an exhib. in coordination with the National
Park Service @ Harper's Ferry with their collection of materials left behind
at the Viet Nam Memorial). We recently opened an exhibition of our permanent
collection called "Initiating America, 200 Years of Fraternalism"...this is a
permanent (rotating) exhibition.
The permanent collection is one of the main focuses of MONH, the museum is
actively collecting objects and I was hired about 2 years ago to focus on
care of this collection.
I hope you can find information about what you're researching, but I thought
you should know that MONH is not a musuem without a collection.
