Hi again,
some of you may have read my request for information regarding dressmakers'
workroom/sales procedures/set ups for an upcoming exhibition at the
Kensington Palace State Apartments and Royal Ceremonial Dress Collection,
London (thanx if you've responded, we appreciate it). This time, though,
I'm after more specific information for our display. Does anyone have any
information on storage facilities, especially baskets, used in a
dressmaking environment (Victorian to early 20th century)? I was hoping
someone might be able to inform me as to the types of baskets likely to
have been used by the trade (for things like bobbin storage, waste etc) or
if any baskets were specifically made for dressmakers usage - I know, for
example, that lined and waterproof baskets/hampers were used to transport
dresses but the information I have is very sketchy.
Any information at all (maybe you know of a good written description or
print) would be GREATLY appreciated. It's probably quicker to respond via
this newsgroup because I'm only available on Fridays but if you would
prefer to write or call the details are below.
