Position Available:               Operations Assistant

The National Canal Museum seeks an Operations Assistant to assist the
Executive Director with the supervision and improvement of the
educational and interpretive programs of the organization, daily
operations administration, and planning for the historic park and museum
complex.

The Operations Assistant will be responsible for the supervision of the
daily operations of the park's mule-drawn canal boat, lockhouse, museum
and boat store.  Additional responsibilities include: training and
supervision of interpretive and store personnel, presentation of
interpretive and educational programs in museums, park, off-site and
aboard the canal boat, development and marketing of programs and
materials in subject areas including canals and transportation and
industrial history, grantwriting and administration for educational
projects.

Qualifications include an appropriate bachelor's degree and teaching or
museum education experience, ability to communicate basic historical,
economic, mechanical and social concepts to all grade levels and
knowledge of computer operations (including the ability to learn a
computerized point of sale system).  Applicants should have some
management or supervisory experience and must be willing to obtain
a Coast Guard canal boat Operator's License.

The Operations Assistant will work a forty hour work week with varied
schedule to correspond to National Canal Museum and canal boat schedules
plus additional hours as necessary.  Considerable weekend hours will be
required.

The National Canal Museum is located in Easton PA, a community of approx.
30,000.  The museum is located in Two Rivers Landing a new cultural center
in downtown Easton which has hosted 150,000 + visitors since its opening
in the summer of 1996.  Two Rivers Landing includes the CRAYOLA Factory
visitors center and the first visitors center of the Delaware and Lehigh
National Heritage Corridor(NPS).  Area institutions include Lafayette College,
and the State Theatre.  Easton is about 70 miles north of Philadelphia and
70 miles west of New York.
