To clarify... we have Catalogers, a Registrar and a Collections Coordinator that all report to me, the Curator. Our Collections Coordinator deals with incoming donations, managing conservation projects, research requests, Our housekeeping plan, exhibit research and more...She functions as a the collections manager but we were not able to put manager in her title. I have also see "Collections Specialist" used for collection manager roles at municipal museums.

If you can't use 'Collections Manager' it seems to me that 'Curator of Collections' is far preferable to some sort of really off-base title like 'Collections Coordinator'....it seems to me that managing collections is part of caring for them and visa versa, and it's a heck of a lot more than coordinating anything. What part of curation do you NOT do? What part do you do? Maybe that would lead to another option. Perhaps the title 'Registrar' might work...it's often used for a pretty wide range of collection management and record keeping responsibilities.

We have a "Collections Coordinator"... because unless you actually manage staff at the university, you cannot have manager in your title.

Subject: [MUSEUM-L] Job Title Inquiry

Good Afternoon,

Recently, we were informed that our job title would be changing from Curator of Collections to something that is better suited to what we actually do.
Our job is actually Collections Manager, but because we work for the City, we cannot be called a Manager. What I would like to know is are there any other Collections Managers out there that aren't called Collections Managers? If so, what is your title?

Thank you in advance,

Ashley
