I'm sorry if you get two copies of this. I sent it earlier, but it never
appeared in my e-mail and didn't show up in the archives, so I do not
know if it reached the list.

Thanks for your tolerance.

~~~~~~~~~~~
Hello,
I am new to the list and I performed a web search using "policies" as my
keyword. I found interesting information, but not what I need.
I am a member of a non-profit [501(c)(3)] county historical commission
and as such I was authorized by the organization to purchase a new
computer, printer, and scanner for our local museum, also a non-profit.
That has been done and the computer and peripherals have been installed.
However, as a long-time computer user and former educator in a small
town, I foresee some possible problems. To address those before they
occur, I have advised the museum director (new) to get the board to
adopt a written policy concerning the computer and peripherals.
For example, in this town everyone knows everyone. The new director of
the museum is a long-time resident. I foresee that friends and
acquaintances will come knocking on her door to ask her to scan and
print photograps or to scan and print copies of the museum's
photographs. They may even bring CDs or floppies and ask to have items
printed for them -- or request to use the computer while she's busy with
other duties.  (I know, hard to believe, but it will happen!)
I am sure the museum has written collections policies, but has anyone
dealt with a problem similar to ours? I told the museum board that I
would find a discussion group who might be able to advise us.
What I would really like to have is a copy of another museum's policy
(or several) concerning computer/printer/scanner/copier use that we can
adapt to our purposes.
If you are willing to share or can point me in the right direction, I
will appreciate it.
Betty
