See Marie Malaro's book on museum law for legal information. An accessions
policy is critical to an organization. Otherwise there are only personal
opinions about what should be accessioned, nothing permanent or impartial to
guide a committee. Open-ended long-term loans are (IMHO)a very bad idea
because you may wind up caring, indefinitely, for another person's
belongings at the expense of your own.
