BACKGROUND:  The Louis Armstrong House & Archives comprises a historic house 
museum visited by people from all over the world and an archives that holds the 
world’s foremost collection of materials relating to Louis Armstrong.  The 
Assistant Director supports the Director by administering the daily operations 
of the house museum and by assisting with fundraising.

REPORTS TO:  Director, Louis Armstrong House & Archives

SUPERVISES:  Museum Assistant (FTE), docents, interns, and volunteers

DUTIES:
1.  Interview, hire, train, and supervise Museum Assistant (FTE), docents, 
interns, and volunteers.
2.  Supervise daily operations of the Louis Armstrong House Welcome Center.
3.  Review daily cash reports, credit card processing statements, and other 
financial reports.
4.  Administer membership program.
5.  Compose grant proposals and reports.  Assist with fundraising initiatives.
6.  Assist with public programs.
7.  Serve as a community liaison.
8.  Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1.  Bachelor's degree in arts administration, music, museum studies, library 
science, Africana studies, or other job related discipline.
2.  Two years experience in a museum, cultural organization, university, or 
other job related organization.
3.  Ability to compose correspondence, reports, memos, spreadsheets, and other 
such documents without significant errors.
4.  Satisfactory qualities of personality and character and ability to work 
with others for the good of the institution.

HIGHLY DESIRED:
1.  Fluency in Spanish and English.
2.  Knowledge of jazz history.
3.  Proficiency in using MS-Office (Word/Access/Excel/Outlook) and Windows.
4.  New York State driver’s license and car.
5.  Graduate degree.
6.  Potential for significant achievement and growth.

SALARY:  $42,000 - $43,680 annually.  Full benefits.

HOURS:  35 hours per week to be scheduled Tuesday-Sunday, 9 AM – 6 PM.  
Occasional evening events.
