                     POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
                      ASSOCIATE EVALUATOR
                  PART-TIME 20 HOURS PER WEEK


POSITION SUMMARY:  Reporting to the Program Evaluator the Associate Evaluator
assists in conducting systematic evaluation studies of exhibits and public
programs.  The position requires an understanding of the museum visitor
experience, a concern for accuracy, and ease with public contact.

TYPICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
-    Collects data through observation, questionnaires, and interviews of museum
     visitors and program participants
-    Performs transcription of audio tapes, data entry, coding, and proofreading
-    Performs data analysis and prepares charts using a computer statistics
     program
-    Prepares reports and summaries of evaluation findings
-    Serves on exhibit planning teams as assigned
-    Assists in design and testing of evaluation instruments
-    Supervises temporary positions for data collection and data entry
-    Occasional Saturday or Sunday hours to collect data from weekend visitors
-    Follows all Academy safety regulations
-    Other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
-    Bachelor's degree (M.A. preferred) in museum studies, education, social
     sciences, or a related field
-    Three (3) years experience in survey research, museum programs or related
     work, or the equivalent education and experience
-    Hands-on experience with word processing and spreadsheet programs essential
     (Macintosh preferred)

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
-    Strong oral and written communication skills
-    Excellent organizational, analytical, spatial perception, and problem
     solving skills
-    Experience in planning, organizing and coordinating projects, and working
     with teams
-    Hands-on experience with statistics, database, and drawing programs a plus
     (Macintosh preferred)
-    Ability to work independently and cooperatively with other Academy staff
     and members of the public
