Although it does not adress museums directly, an article in the February 19,
1996 issue of "The Nation" entiled"America's House of Cards:How the Casino
Economy Robs the Working Poor" by Marc Cooper,  provides some insight
concerning how these things effect local economies.  It is a must read.  From
his article I would extrapolate that visitors would be redirected from
museums into casinos and that local tax bases, which you may rely upon, will
be weakened.
