Some years ago when the AAM met in San Francisco I visited a place called
"The Museum of Modern Mythology" devoted to advertising icons--Mr. Clean,
Tony the Tiger, Speedy Alka-Seltzer, etc.--founded on the premise that they
are the modern equivalent of the figures from ancient mythologies. A
provocative idea, and fun. I don't, down here in the West Indies where the
rum is brewed, have a current AAM Directory, so I don't know if this
operation--modest then, just a suite in an office building--is still
extant, or whether it would be listed in the Directory. Advertising: The
Forced Draught Blowing Through Pop Culture.
