We are doing more and more school programs, and in fact the emphasis for our grant writing is finding funding for school tours and busses. In a time when other museums seem to have decreasing attendance, ours is growing. I have also found that children and preparing them for the
future is the primary concern for many foundations, especially corporate.

We advertise through a teacher's newsletter, on our website, and we do very well with word of mouth. We will have served almost 7,000 children this year through tours, outreach programs, and services to teachers. We are preparing a new brochure this summer to advertise our
teachers' resource center, which include loan materials from the National Gallery of Art, a set of four new literacy/visual literacy crates that the museum created with a MetLife Foundation Grant, and other materials. In addition we are expanding our early childhood program.

An interesting twist to consider - the services we offer for children also work very well with senior citizens, especially our outreach programs.

Manhattan, KS is what I would call a rural city, serving a three county area, a military base and a University.
