Lee Valley Tools carries a line of pioneer-era milk paint that they sell as
a powder made of casein (milk protein), clay, lime and earth pigments
(predominantly metallic oxides) or vegetable dyes. The powder is just mixed
with water to make the paint. Their catalogue doesn't indicate proportions
of ingredients.  If you need more information, Lee Valley has a website at;
http://www.leevalley.com/home/main.asp and a toll-free number of
1-800-267-8767
