Fish for All: Perspectives on the History of Lake Michigan Fisheries Policy
and Management

Exhibit Opening at Door County Maritime Museum in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin on
Sunday, September 17, 2000

"Fish for All: Perspectives on the History of Lake Michigan Fisheries Policy
and Management" will open at the Door County Maritime Museum in Sturgeon
Bay, Wisconsin on Sunday, September 17, 2000. The exhibit, which was
produced by the Great Lakes Center for Maritime Studies at Western Michigan
University (WMU), examines how sport, commercial, and trial fishers and
state and federal government officials have historically managed Lake
Michigan fisheries. Led by Dr. Michael J. Chiarappa, Assistant Professor of
History and Dr. Kristin M. Szylvian, Associate Professor of History, the
"Fish for All" team collected hundreds of artifacts, documents and
photographs for the exhibit. Many of the items in the exhibit are from
private and family collections. Visitors to the exhibit will have an
opportunity to hear excerpts from over fifty Oral History interviews
gathered by Chiarappa, Szylvian, and their WMU students.

"Fish for All" will remain at the Door County Maritime Museum through
November 26. The exhibit will travel to the the Michigan Maritime Museum in
South Haven, Michigan on December 2 and be open through March 3, 2001.
